Three members of rebel group New People's Army (NPA) were killed
in an encounter with the military in Mauban town, Quezon, the Army said Tuesday.

The 1st Infantry Battalion did not suffer casualties.

Soldiers recovered a 9-mm pistol after the
5-minute firefight with about 10 alleged NPA rebels in Barangay Abu-abu.


Col. Alex Rillera, commander of the 202nd Infantry Brigade which has operational jurisdiction over the area, said this is the fourth time his troops fought NPA members in the area inside a month.

Last Sunday, an Army personnel died in Lopez town, Quezon after a landmine allegedly planted by the NPA detonated along a road in Barangay Santa Rosa.
