CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – A firefight between the troops of 34th Infantry Battalion and Midsayap Municipal Police has erupted early this morning at Sitio Narra, Brgy Tumbras, Midsayap, North Cotabato.

The government forces encountered with at least 10 fully armed men led by a certain Mama Macalimbol, who has an outstanding warrant of arrest for multiple attempted murder.

The encounter started at around 5:00 a.m. and lasted for 40 minutes that resulted to the killing of Macalimbol and 6 of his followers.

No one was hurt on the government forces during the encounter.

Recovered were 7 high-powered firearms with assorted ammunition as follows: one (1) 7.62mm Fal jet rifle, two cal. 30 Garand rifles, one cal. 50 improvised Barret rifle, one (1) 7.62mm M14 rifle, one (1) improvised 7.62mm M14 rifle, and one (1) M16 5.56mm rifle.

34th IB Commander, Lt. Col. Glenn Loreto T. Caballero said that “the success of the operation was manifested through the commitment of the AFP, PNP, and local government unit as well as the immense support from the local populace in the area.”

He also said that the constituents of Brgy Tumbras and Brgy Malinagao in Midsayap town appreciated the joint efforts of the government security forces in addressing the prevailing threat to the community.Meanwhile, Joint Task Force Central Commander Maj. Gen. Diosdado C. Carreon said that joint operation was part of the AFP and PNP’s mandated tasks to preserve peace and support the war against terrorism.
