AN ARMY and police officer were wounded after a firefight with members of the New People’s Army that lasted more than 10 minutes in Barangay Suguib, Besao, Mountain Province late afternoon of October 24.

Sergeant Lito Anilom Naganag of the Special Forces Regiment and Airborne and another police patrolman, whose identity is still being verified as of Friday was wounded in action according to a report from Police Lieutenant Colonel Crisante Sadino, officer in charge of the Deputy Provincial Director for Operations of Mountain Province Provincial Police Office (MPPO).

Sadino said while members of the Section 4 of Special Force Combat Qualification Course (SFCQC) Class 15-19 composed of an officer and 24 enlisted personnel led was conducting a field military operations (FMO) when they
encountered more than three communist terrorists believed to be members of the Kilusang Larangang Guerilla Ampis under Lupito Wigit a.k.a Tangkib in the area.

After the firefight, members of the communist terrorists withdrew.


“This is in relation to the joint operation Oplan Kapanatagan wherein there was an ongoing operation which started a month ago which included the special forces operating in the area together with members of the Philippine National Police – Cordillera together with the 5th and 7th Infantry Division wherein they encountered these members of the communist terrorist in Besao, Mountain Province and unfortunately we had one from the government force and another from the PNP who were wounded but are now in the hospital for treatment in Nueva Ecija,” Police Regional Office Cordillera director Police Brigadier General Israel Ephraim Dickson said.

At 4 p.m. of the same day, Section 2 of SFCQC Class 15-19 composed of an officer and 25 personnel also encountered close to five rebels believed to be members of the Kilusang Larangang Guerrilla Ampis in the same area.

No reported casualties or wounded were reported on the government side while an undetermined number of possible casualty was recorded on the communist terrorists.

“We are continuously conducting our operation specially with this incident wherein we have strengthened our checkpoint and combat operations in the said area aside from our monitoring and intelligence gathering to determine the movements of our enemies which is in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines here in our region,” Dickson added.
