WESTMINCOM: Terrorized school reopens in Basilan

Posted to the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) Website (Jul 27, 2019): Terrorized school reopens in Basilan

After being closed for more than a year, the terrorized Kamamburingan Elementary School in Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan Province finally reopened on July 25, 2019, through the efforts of the Department of Education and the 18th Infantry Battalion.

The school was victimized by the terrorists, forcing its shutdown, in May 2018.

To fulfil its mission of clearing the area, 18IB initiated the conduct of Community Support Program (CSP) that led to the establishment of an Integrated Territorial Defense System whose primary duty is to maintain peace and order in the area. Members of the ITDS include the CAFGU, PNP, AFP and residents of Kamamburingan.

Through the Project Shoebox of the Philippine Army CMO Regiment, 18IB distributed school supplies during the opening ceremony that benefited more than 200 students.

“This activity depicts the success of the interagency collaboration and unwavering support from the civilians,” said Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, commander of the Western Mindanao Command.

“Rest assured Team WestMinCom, through the 18IB, will sustain its peace efforts for the people of Ungkaya Pukan to live normally and tranquilly,” LtGen Sobejana added.
