CAMP CAPINPIN, Tanay, Rizal- Soldiers of the 76th Infantry Battalion, 203rd Brigade together with the Police and the Local Government Units (LGUs) provided relief assistance to the displaced Mangyan Indigeneous People in Victoria, Oriental Mindoro who evacuated after gov’t troop’s successively encountered the NPA terrorists in the area.

BGen Marceliano V Teofilo, Commander of the 203rd Brigade said “Almost 400 affected IP families who lived in the mountains were given relief goods and medicines after they seek shelters at the Barangays of Loyal, Cristobal, San Antonio and Villa Cerveza all of Victoria.

“We are working hand and hand with the LGUs and the barangay officials here to give all the necessary support and assistance we can to ensure the safety and well-being of these evacuees who were affected by the NPA atrocities. We will advice them to go home once the NPA threats are gone”.

It can be recalled that last July 3, 2019, one NPA squadleader identified as Mervin Malucon alias “Wally” was killed after three armed encounters against the government troops in Brgy Loyal, Victoria.

The relief operation was led by Victoria Mayor Joselito Malabanan together with the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) and the barangay officials.

Further, Mayor Malabanan calls on to the NPAs to spare the Mangyan peace loving tribe from their activities. He also encourage them to surrender and accept the gov’t E-CLIP program for the rebels.

One Mangyan Tribal leader expressed his gratitude to the assistance provided by the LGUs of Victoria and the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro.

BGen Elias H Escarcha, Acting Commander of 2ID lauded the joint efforts of the soldiers and the LGUs in the area. He said peace and development can only be achieved through unity and concerted efforts of all government sectors.

Currently, pursuit operations of the military and the police against the NPA terrorists in Mindoro are still on-going, while the relief assistance for other evacuees also continue.
