‘Return of 11th ID to Negros done deal’

From the Visayan Daily Star (May 29, 2019): ‘Return of 11th ID to Negros done deal’

The return of the 11th Infantry Battalion to Negros Oriental is already a done deal, Brig. Gen. Ignacio Madriada, 302nd Infantry Brigade commander, said yesterday.

Madriaga said the 11IB troops are now ready to leave Zamboanga, but are still waiting for the availability and schedule of a Navy ship to ferry them to Negros Oriental.

The 11IB was dispatched to Zamboanga two years ago to help in the fight against the Abu Sayyaf terrorist group.

Madriaga welcomed the return of 11IB to Negros Oriental, saying it will help fast-track their objective of clearing Negros Oriental of armed insurgents sooner than they had anticipated.

At present, there is only one Army battalion deployed in Negros Oriental, with three others stationed in Negros Occidental.

The 82nd Infantry Battalion, that is also under the supervision of 3rd Infantry Division, is presently assigned in Marawi.
