PARANG, Maguindanao -- Police have launched manhunt operations against gunmen who killed four persons in separate ambuscades in Matanog and Sultan Kudarat towns of Maguindanao on Wednesday, police said.
Maj. Rajiv Alih, police chief of Parang, Maguindanao, said the Army’s 37th Infantry Battalion is helping the local police in hunting down the perpetrators.
Alih said two motorcycle-riding gunmen ambushed and killed two persons in Purok Kulimpang, Barangay Macasandag, Parang, Maguindanao at about 10 a.m.
Alih identified the victims as Omar Pandi, 30, and Esmael Mantar, 40, both of Sitio Palildan, Barangay Bayanga, Matanog. “Both victims died on the spot,” Alih said.
The victims were on board an Isuzu Elf cargo truck loaded with sacks of corn and were heading to Parang town when waylaid.
Alih believed the ambush was triggered by personal grudge but probers are still digging deeper in the incident.
At about 12 noon, gunmen on board a Toyota Innova also opened fire on a white Toyota Wigo vehicle (ADP-3187) driven by Dayaba Kari, 67, of Pigcawayan, North Cotabato along the national highway in Barangay Rebuken, Sultan Kudarat.
Cpl. Dickson Masla, an investigator of the Sultan Kudarat municipal police office, said Kari and his unidentified companion died on the spot. Responding police recovered empty shells for .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.
Witnesses said the victims’ vehicle was heading toward Pigcawayan when ambushed. Quoting witnesses, Masla said the suspects sped toward the direction of Parang, Maguindanao.
Police said the two incidents were not related.
