From ABS-CBN (May 30, 2019): Abu Sayyaf bandit killed, 7 others hurt in Sulu clashes

A member of the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf was killed while 7 others were wounded in several encounters with government troops in Patikul town, Sulu, the military said.

Authorities pursued the terrorists reportedly behind the killing of 2 children and wounding of several civilians in Barangay Igasan.

The first encounter between the Abu Sayyaf and the 5th Scout Ranger Battalion took place in Barangay Kaunayan on Monday, May 27. It was followed by another encounter led by the 14th Special Forces Company in the same village.

The third encounter occurred in Barangay Sandah on Wednesday, May 29, when the 41st Infantry Battalion located the terrorists.

Recovered from the clashes were a firearm, assorted ammunitions, and personal belongings of Abu Sayyaf members.

Brig. Gen. Divino Rey Pabayo Jr., commander of Joint Task Force Sulu, said the operation against the terrorists would continue.

"We have to bring to justice these ASG bandits who have harassed, killed, and wounded innocent villagers," he said in a statement.
