The explosives surrendered by members of the defunct Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Boncayao Brigade under the Tabara-Paduano Group were detonated in Brgy. Gahit, EB Magalona, Negros Occidental, Saturday.
PCapt. Jaynick Bermudez, EB Magalona police officer-in-charge, said yesterday that the explosives, composed of 20 rifle grenades and 50 ammunition of an M-203 grenade launcher, that had been surrendered last year, and being stored at the town police station, already showed signs that they it may prematurely explode.
The detonation of explosives was initiated by the Explosives Ordnance Division of the PNP, and witnessed by representatives of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace Process, Bureau of Fire and Protection, local police and rescue unit of EB Magalona.
Known now as Kapatiran para sa Progreso ng Panlipunan, or Brotherhood for Social Progress, the defunct RPA-ABB has 716 registered members nationwide, with the bulk of its forces stationed in Negros Island.
Reports from OPPAP said that the RPA-ABB possesses more than 400 firearms and 300 explosives.
The RPA-ABB entered into a peace agreement with the government in year 2000.
