A Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) commander and one of his followers were slain in a clash with the government forces in Sitio Macantal, Barangay Olandang, Midsayap, North Cotabato on Saturday (April 20, 2019).

While serving warrant of arrest, combined elements of the 34th Infantry Battalion and the Midsayap Municipal Police Station were fired upon by heavily armed men under BIFF 2nd Division Commander Mando Mamalompong a.k.a DM.

A heavy firefight ensued that resulted to the deaths of Mamalompong and one of his followers identified as Nur Hamid Sabdulla a.k.a Tong while one soldier was slightly wounded.

Mamalompong was the concurrent spokesperson of the Karialan Faction.

Seized from the encounter site were an M16 rifle, one M14 rifle and assorted magazines and ammunitions.

“The successful operation is attributed to the information shared by the local residents who do not want terrorists’ presence in their community,” said 602nd Brigade commander, Brigadier General Alfredo V. Rosario.

Joint Task Force Central commander, Major General Cirilito Sobejana said that the 6thInfantry Division is doing its best to defeat the enemy with the community’s full cooperation and support.

“The entire community is hoping that this menace of society will come to an end and that peace and development will push unhampered,” he added.

Wounded soldier was immediately evacuated to the nearest hospital for medical attention.

WestMinCom Chief Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega said, “We will take all means to protect the people, secure vulnerable villages, and push our offensives until the terror threats are completely eliminated in our area of operation.”

“I once again enjoin everyone to help and support Team WestMinCom in this fight against terrorism here in the region,” LtGen Dela Vega added.
