Government troopers have overrrun a New People’s Army (NPA) hospital in a cave on the mountains of Buenavista town in Agusan del Sur.
First Lt. Roel Maglalang, 23rd Infantry Battalion spokesman, said the hospital could accommodate 15 people at one time.

Maglalang said medicine for trauma wounds and surgical equipment as well as two Garand rifles and subversive documents were recovered at the scene.

As this developed, 25 NPA rebels, who operated in Salvador Benedicto, Calatrava, Toboso, Escalante and Toboso towns in Negros Occidental, surrendered yesterday.

The military said the surrenderees turned over three M16 rifles, an M14, four Garand rifles, 12 caliber .45 pistols, a caliber .22 with scope, four 12 gauge shotguns and two 9mm Uzis.

In Oriental Mindoro, the military said NPA platoon leader Rustom Simbulan was killed in an encounter with police officers in Sitio Uraray, Barangay Wagyan in Mansalay town at around 5 a.m. yesterday.


The fatality was said to be involved in the burning of heavy equipment at a hydroelectric power plant in Nauajan on Tuesday and the raid on a construction firm in Gloria town on Thursday.

In Negros Occidental, suspected NPA rebels burned a backhoe owned by Galicon Construction Inc. in Kabankalan City on Friday.
