From the Philippine Information Agency (Jan 16, 2019): Esperanza villagers turn over 32 loose firearms

A total of 32 loose firearms were handed-over to Lt. Col. Alvin Iyog, commanding officer of 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion in a turnover ceremony at the Municipal Hall of Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat Friday morning.

The loose firearms include 31 12 gauge shotguns with ammunitions and one cal. 40 light pistol.

"The hand over is a continuing campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms in the area of 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade in partnership with other stakeholders and the local government," said Brigadier General Robert Dauz.

Meanwhile, Major General Cirilito Sobejana, commander of the Joint Task Force Central, expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the local government officials and the constituents of Esperanza for extending their support to the AFP’s campaign against loose firearms.

The activity was facilitated by the local government unit through the leadership of Mayor Helen Latog.

At present, a total of 1,972 loose firearms were handed-over and recovered in the areas of JTF Central since the campaign was started. (DPAO-6ID)
