From the Visayan Daily Star (Jan 19, 2019): Encounter in Kabankalan
Armed skirmishes ensued yesterday between Army soldiers and suspected New People’s Army rebels in Sitio Pacama, Brgy. Magballo, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
The running gunbattle lasted for about 15 minutes, and the 10 suspected communist rebels withdrew in separate directions, a 303rd Infantry Brigade report showed.
The 15th Infantry Battalion soldiers stationed at the Dacongcogon detachment are still in pursuit of the fleeing rebels, as of this time.
No casualty was reported on the government side.
Two Air Force helicopters have been dispatched from Iloilo to Negros, to assist the Army soldiers in pursuing the fleeing rebels.
The encounter took place a week after suspected NPA rebels launched a sniping operation in Brgy. Hilamonan, Kabankalan City, that caused injury to an Army soldier.
