LANAO DEL SUR (DWDD) – Government forces are in pursuit of remnants of the IS-inspired Maute group in the towns of Tubaran and Pagayawan in Lanao Del Sur.



According to Col Romeo Brawner, JTF Ranao deputy commander and spokesperson, the intensified operation that happened in Tubaran, Lanao Del Sur on June 17, 2018 is part of the fulfillment of the promise of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to go after the remnants of the Maute-ISIS group.

The operation was the result of months-long intelligence operations as well as the cooperation of the local government and the citizens who are fed-up with the terror group.

The AFP is now securing and assisting the Internally Displaced Persons at various evacuation centers

As of the latest reports, five (5) members of the Maute-ISIS group led by Owayda Benito Marohombsar alias Abu Dar, have been neutralized although this has yet to be verified.

In connection with this, the AFP has on the public to stay calm in the midst of recent events. The 103rd Infantry Brigade is making sure that the hostilities will not extend beyond the mountainous areas of Tubaran and Pagayawan of Lanao del Sur. AES / ALS / MCAG
