A senior Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) sub-leader who carries a P600,000 bounty on his head was arrested while eight soldiers were reportedly wounded when an Improvised Explosive Devise (IED) exploded during a clearing operation at an encounter site in Patikul, Sulu.

Sulu Provincial Police Office director Senior Supt. Pablo Labra identified the ASG sub-leader as Suaib Hayudini who carries a P600,000 bounty on his head for his capture “dead or alive” was arrested by police authorities Sunday noon near a money transfer remittance center at the town proper of Jolo in Sulu..

Hayudini is also facing charges of kidnapping with ransom and kidnapping with murder and frustrated murder.

Labra said Hayudini has two standing warrants of arrest – the 2001 Sipadan Beach Resort in Malaysia kidnapping and the 2001 Balobo massacre incident in Basilan province.

According to Labra, Hayudini is listed in the DND-DILG most wanted personalities and carries a P600,000 reward for his capture dead or alive.

In a related develop, at least eight soldiers were wounded when an IED exploded during a clearing operations conducted by soldiers at an encounter site in Barangay Bangkal, Patikul, Sulu about 2:40 p.m., Saturday, June 23..

The wounded soldiers are now confined at the Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital in Busbus, Jolo, Sulu, according to Joint Task force- Sulu (JTF-Sulu) commander Brig Gen, Divino Rey Pabayo.

Pabayo said the enemy suffered undetermined number of casualties as evidence of the bloodstains seen in the areas where the bandits previously positioned during the encounter.

Numerous firearms and war materials were also recovered including an IED left by the ASG at the encounter site, he said.

Pabayo reported that soldiers of the 1st Scout Ranger Battalion led by Lt. Col. Samuel Yunque were conducting a focused military operation when they encountered the ASG gunmen under ASG sub-leaders Almujer Yaddah, Sonny Boy Sajirin, and Ellam Hasirin in Barangay Bangkal,l, Sulu.

Report reaching this city from the JTF-Sulu indicated that heavy skirmishes ensued between operating troops of the Joint Task Force Sulu and 40 ASG bandits.

The troops were able to maneuver and take advantage, pushing the bandits to scamper to different directions after 30 minutes of firefight.

“We have intensified our operations to pursue the fleeing bandits to prevent them from committing atrocities against the people,” said Armed Forces of the Philippines, Western Mindanao Command (AFP-WestMinCom) commander Lt. Gen. Arnel Dela Vega.

Dela Vega said, “our Joint Task Force Sulu continues to exhaust all efforts and means to contain the Abu Sayyaf and constrict its movement. We are continuously intensifying the conduct of focused military operations, in coordination with the local government and the people of Sulu, to neutralize the terrorist group,”
