PH, Australia hold joint urban warfare training

CAMP BANCASI, Butuan City – The Philippines-Australia Army to Army Exercise (PAAAE) culminated last week at the headquarters of the Army’s Southern Mindanao 10th Infantry (Agila) Division (10th ID) headquarters at Sergeant Demerin Grandstand in Camp General Manuel T. Yan Sr., Mawab, Compostela Valley (ComVal), said Capt. Jerry S. Lamosao, 10th ID Public Affairs Office (PAO) chief, in a statement sent to The Manila Bulletin on Monday.

Aside from the skills in urban warfare training, participants completed their training on Urban Close Combat, Search and Breach Operation, Managing Combat Trauma, Communication Operation, Command and Control in Urban Operation, Sniping and Counter sniping and Joint Fires and Airspace Deconfliction.

Exactly 257 Filipino soldiers participated in the training. They came from different units of Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMincom) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)- Caraga region, Northern Mindanao region and Southern Mindanao region headed by EastMincom Assistant Chief of Staff for Education and Training (G8) Lt. Col. Jeffrey C. Cabansay.

The Australian Defense Force that facilitated the exercise was composed of 6 officers and 52 enlisted personnel. Lt. Col. Judd Finger heads the Joint Task Group 629 for the PAAAE, Lamosao said.

Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Amanda Gorely was the guest of honor and speaker during the culmination day on March 1. Gorely was joined by EastMincom chief Lt. Gen. Benjamin R. Madrigal Jr. and 10th ID commander Maj. Gen. Noel S. Clement.

The PAAAE is aimed at equipping forces under EastMincom units the necessary skills training on urban warfare, Lamosao added.

The training started on Feb. 15, 2018.
