Iligan creates reward system for terror informants

From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 2): Iligan creates reward system for terror informants

A reward of PHP10,000 await informants of terrorist activities in the city, Mayor Celso G. Regencia said.

Regencia said the reward system was necessary to arrest terrorist elements, or foil attacks similar to what occurred in Marawi City last year.

Citing intelligence report, Regencia said remnants of the Maute group are eyeing Iligan as the next target for terrorist attacks.

The Maute group, he added, has been actively recruiting new members and forming alliances with sympathizers in the city.

"They are planning a violent attack. We should not let our guard down," the mayor said.

Regencia said law enforcement agencies have been closely monitoring several personalities, including safe houses that are possibly harboring Maute members.

Senior Supt. Leony Roy Ga, city police director, said the local police have also been beefing up resources to counter the threats.

He said a fleet of pick-up trucks to improve the local police's mobility is already in the pipeline, including a fresh supply of guns and ammunitions.

For his part, Regencia underscored the cooperation of local residents in maintaining peace and order in the city.
