From the Manila Bulletin (Mar 2): 148 new soldiers finish jungle warfare training to pursue NPA terrorists

To widen the war against communist-New People’s Army (NPA) terrorists in the mountain ranges, 148 new soldiers completed their 16-week jungle warfare training on Wednesday, said regional Army spokesman Capt. Jerry S. Lamosao, in a statement sent to the Manila Bulletin Friday.

The regional spokesman of the Southern Mindanao 10th Infantry (Agila) Division (10th ID) also said the proud members of Candidate Soldiers (CS) course Class 495-2017 “MATAGBAS” (Mandirigmang Agilang Tagapagtanggol ng Bayang Sinilangan) also completed its Basic Military Training (BMT).

The new soldiers have also undergone weapons training, jungle and mountaineering, tactics-techniques procedures (TTPs), combat standard operating procedures (SOP), Intelligence, civil-military operations, and with emphasis on respect of human rights, international humanitarian law and rule of law, the 10th ID spokesperson added.

In the same statement, Maj. Gen. Noel S. Clement, commanding general of the 10th ID, welcomed the new soldiers and said “They have become one of the best and the brightest soldiers of the Philippine Army, through the mentoring and supervision of our hardworking training directorate and members of the 10th Infantry (Agila) Division Training School in coordination.”

“They are trained to be capable of multirole such as doing civil-military works while very much ready to use force when necessary. They will be deployed into areas where people needed them the most and also become part of units that spearhead the campaign against communist-terrorist threat. With these new, strong and

committed soldiers, we are confident and steadfast in performing our mandated task of protecting the people and securing our communities against any threat,” the 10th ID chief added.

The graduation ceremony of the new soldiers was held at Sgt. Demerin Grandstand, Headquarters 10th ID, Barangay Tuboran, Mawab, Compostela Valley province on Wednesday afternoon, he said.

National Defense Undersecretary for Veterans and Retirees Lt. Gen. Reynaldo B. Mapagu AFP (ret.) was the guest of honor and speaker during the activity.
