From Malaya Business Insight (Feb 12): Soldiers drive away NPA rebs in Cagayan town
SOLDIERS successfully drove away more than 10 New People’s Army rebels sowing terror in Barangay Masi, Rizal town in Cagayan province on Saturday.
Lt. Col. Camilo Saddam, commander of the Army’s 17th Infantry Battalion, said his men received reports that a group of communist rebels were doing the rounds in Barangay Masi threatening residents if they do not support the underground movement.
Saddam said his men chanced upon the rebels at around noon last Saturday which triggered a 15-minute gun battle and forced the enemy to withdraw toward Mt. Zinundungan.
Brig. Gen. Bartolome Baccaro, commander of the Army’s 502nd IB, ordered the deployment of additional forces to hunt down the rebels. No one was hurt on the government side.
