3rd ID units to be reshuffled

From the Visayan Daily Star (Nov 4): 3rd ID units to be reshuffled

The infantry units of the Army's 3rd Infantry Division stationed in Visayas and Mindanao are expected to be reshuffled soon.

Maj. Gen. Jon Aying, 3ID commanding general, said yesterday that he will pull out the 15th Infantry Battalion from Marawi, and replaced it with the 82nd Infantry Battalion as soon as the peace and order in the area stabilizes.

The 15IB, whose troopers have been assigned in Mindanao for almost 10 years, will be returned to Negros, Aying added.

The 11th Infantry Battalion stationed in Zamboanga City, meanwhile, may remain in the area due to the tightening of security, as Martial Law is still in effect there, he said.

Zamboanga City is the gateway to the island-provinces of Basilan and Sulo , where Abu Sayyaff bandits are operating.

The 3ID is composed of three infantry brigades that supervise six Army battalions, except the newly-created 1st and 2nd Negros Island Geographical Battalions.
