The Russian government will be donating 5000 units of Kalashnikov rifles to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Turn over will be on October 25.

This was first revealed by President Rodrigo Duterte during today’s groundbreaking ceremony of the Scout Ranger Ville situated at the border of Barangay Calumpang and Tartaro-Sibul in San Miguel, Bulacan.

“As part of the, dala ko galing Russia, pumunta kami almost just below 24 hours – we will have the Kalashnikov [rifle],” he said.

The President did not mention what exact model of Kalashnikov rifle, also known as Avtomat (Automatic) Kalashnikova or AK, will be provided. However, it has variants using 5.56×45 mm NATO.

After the event, National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said a Russian vessel will arrive October 22 carrying the 5000 rifles and 20 military trucks.

“Ito yung donation ng Russia sa ating fight against terrorism. Darating yung barko nila dito sa 22 October, which is about two weeks from now tapos yung turnover ng mga equipment, mga baril sa 25 sa Manila,” Secretary Lorenzana said.
