Military’s ‘Sir PR’ hit for being ‘unprofessional’

From the Daily Tribune (Oct 30): Military’s ‘Sir PR’ hit for being ‘unprofessional’

A mid-ranking Army officer is earning the ire of stakeholders in Mindanao for his alleged penchant of “soliciting” support from them.

Officials from various private and cause-oriented groups refused to identify the official, but said he has the rank of lieutenant colonel.

“This officer is fast earning the moniker ‘sir PR’ from stakeholders who are already losing patience with him for his ways of soliciting support to various activities,” one source said.

“While soliciting support to worthy activities is good, this officer does not care going directly to principals to seek such...putting the stakeholders on the spot,” the source added, citing instances when the officer would ask for favors at the expense of his colleagues anda displaced Marawi residents.

Representatives of a Quezon City-based organization expressed concerns that if not reminded, the officer may drag the military organization to bad light for his “unprofessionalism.”

“We doubt if his superiors are aware of what he is doing. For sure, they will not allow such ungentlemanly conduct of their subordinates,” they said.

“While we are all out in supporting the AFP as an organization, this officer’s ways only discourage stakeholders from doing more for the troops,” they added.

The sources lamented that while the military leadership has worked very hard, some troops even pay the ultimate sacrifice, just to maintain the good image of the organization, there are officers like the lieutenant colonel who tarnish the reputation of the AFP.
