From the Philippine News Agency (May 30): Gunman wounds 2 members of anti-bomb squad in Kidapawan City
An unidentified gunman shot and injured Monday night two "K-9" bomb-sniffing dog handlers in front of the city's public market.
Supt. Leo Ajero, Kidapawan City police director, said the shooting that occurred at around 8 p.m. injured Ryan Simpao, 29, and Ryan Solatorio, 23.
Ajero said the two were standing beside a K-9 unit patrol vehicle in front of the Kidapawan City mega market when a lone gunman opened fire on them.
The suspect fled on board a motorbike driven by an accomplice.
Bystanders rushed the two K-9 handlers to the hospital.
The motive of the attack remained unknown as of posting time.
Kidapawan City Mayor Joseph Evangelista condemned the attack and directed the police to speed up the investigation.
In the face of martial law declaration, the city is considering imposing a "no ID, no entry" to ensure the safety of civilians.
He also stressed the need to strictly enforce safety measures so the people of Kidapawan City could sleep soundly.
The two members of the anti-bomb squad were deployed in the city's public market after two roadside bomb attacks occurred over the weekend, injuring four police officers blamed by authorities on communist rebels.
