BIFF bandits injure 1 civilian while harassing Maguindanao police

From the Philippine News Agency (May 29): BIFF bandits injure 1 civilian while harassing Maguindanao police

The outlawed Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) injured one civilian in an attempt to overrun the Maguindanao police provincial office here on Sunday.

Senior Supt. Agustin Tello, Maguindanao police provincial director, said the BIFF who positioned in the forested area of Shariff Aguak fired four shoulder-fired rifle grenades toward Camp Datu Aklan, the police headquarters, beginning 6:00 p.m. Saturday and the whole of Sunday until evening.

"No police casualties were reported but a civilian was hit by shrapnel," Tello told reporters. One of the rifle grenades overshot and landed in residential areas near the police office.

The 70-year-old Bualan Munib was rushed to Maguindanao provincial hospital located 500 meters away and is now out of danger.

Tello said the last rifle grenade fired by BIFF landed at the back of the provincial office, about 200 meters away.

Following the incident, the police put up perimeter security detachment around the provincial police office in anticipation of more harassment.
