The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Western Command (WESCOM) is "on alert and in coordination with other AFP units and other law enforcement agencies in Mindanao should there be a need to reinforce our troops there, and to deny access to the enemies of the state from entering Palawan."

This was contained in a statement released on Thursday by the AFP-WESCOM in Palawan in the wake of of the terrorist group Maute's attack in Marawi City in the afternoon of May 23.

The statement stressed that its unit continues to be "on heightened alert as it has always been in the past few months against any terrorist group."

“This Command is also on alert and in coordination with other AFP units and other law enforcement agencies in Mindanao should there be a need to reinforce our troops there, and to deny access to the enemies of the state from entering Palawan,” according to the statement released by its spokesperson Capt. Cherryl Tindog.

WESCOM urged Palaweños to remain calm and vigilant, and to continue to coordinate with them for any information or incident related to safety and security.

“Rest assured that your Western Command will always be at the frontline to keep our people safe and secured,” said the statement.

On Wednesday, President Rodrigo R. Duterte placed the whole of Mindanao under martial law following the Maute group’s invasion of Marawi City.
