From the Manila Bulletin (Apr 30): Alleged NPA members attack Madela police; 1 killed, 2 PNP rescued
Suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) attacked the Maddela Police Station in Quirino and abducted policemen.

The attackers swooped down on the police station at around 10 p.m. on Saturday. They were on board an Elf truck and two vans and immediately fired at the police station that injured a policeman, who later died.
Police manning the station fought back, but were overwhelmed as they ran out of ammunition.
The fire fight lasted about 45 minutes and the enemy commandeered two patrol cars of the police station — one Hilux and one Mahindra – and an undetermined number of long and short firearms.
Meanwhile, PO2 Jerome Cardenas was declared dead on arrival (DOA) at the Maddela District Hospital.
Rebels ransaked the cabinet of the Police where some FAs firearms are kept.
Supt.Rommel Rumbaoa, company commander PPSC, provincial public safety company said that on hot pursuit operation, the commandeered vehicles (Hilux and Mahindra) were recovered at Brgy. Cabua-an ,and San Pedro,Maddela, Quirino. Also rescued were SPO1 Siriban and PO1 Albano, both alive and unhurt.
