From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 11): (2nd Update) Additional units deployed to neutralize suspected ASG elements in Bohol

Additional military units were deployed to assist security forces in neutralizing a lawless elements group, believed to be members of the Abu Sayyaf Group, in Inabanga town, Bohol Tuesday morning.

This was stressed by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesperson Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla in a statement.

"Additional forces from the Army, Air Force and the Navy are now onsite to assist engaged AFP personnel and law enforcers. Fire fight is still ongoing as of this time," he noted.

The clash took place 7 a.m. at Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Napo, of the above province.

"The Chief-of-Staff, Gen. Eduardo Año, while visiting troops of 101st Infantry Brigade of the 10th Inf Division at Maco, CVP (Compostela Valley Province), revealed in a statement that around 7 a.m. Army elements from 47th Infantry Battalion led by 2nd Lt. Estelito Saldua, along with members of the Bohol Provincial Police Office (BPPO), the Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) and the PIB, while acting on received intelligence information, encountered a group of heavily armed lawless elements at Sitio Ilaya, Barangay Napo, Inabanga, Bohol," he noted.

Padilla said the operation was launched in relation to the monitored presence of 10 armed men with three pump boats along the riverside of the above-mentioned area.

The information came from alert residents and other citizens who were watching over their respective communities.

"Security forces reported that the armed group is well armed with heavy caliber weapons but now cornered in an isolated section of the sitio," the AFP spokesperson stressed.
