CPP-NPA wants clear picture of the proposed federalism

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 5): CPP-NPA wants clear picture of the proposed federalism

The Communist Party of the Philippines-New Peoples Army (CPP-NPA) is open to the idea of federalism as proposed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

In a press conference here Thursday noon, Concha Araneta-Bocala, consultant of the CPP-NPA for peace talks, said they just wanted a clear picture of the federalism proposal.

"The CPP-NPA is open to the federalism. What we are interested of is the economic agenda of President Duterte whether it will be a presidential, parliamentary or a federal form of government," she said.

Bocala was here for the launching of the Aklan leg of the Kapayapaan, a nationwide peace network.

Malinao Mayor Atty. Ariel Wilbert Ariel Igoy, who is also the president of the League of the Municipalities in Aklan, said that the Kapayapaan is a multi-sectoral movement in quest for a just and lasting peace.

"As it is quite evident that the significance of the on-going peace process has not reached the people who will benefit the most and who should be active stakeholders, there is a need for a systematic and sustainable information and education campaign," said Igoy, who is also head convener of the Kapayapaan Peace Network-Aklan.

"Kapayapaan believes that as Filipinos committed to a just and lasting peace in our country, we must contribute to the development of a strong grassroots, nationwide and broad-based peace constituency and movement that can help get the talks back on its tracks-whether irregular or special. It also aims to draw plans on how we can be a positive force in ensuring its success for the benefit of the people," he added.
