From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 6): AFP to deploy 'sufficient force' to secure 'Traslacion'
With the Black Nazarene Procession or the "Traslacion" just two days away, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said it will be deploying "a sufficient force" to safeguard the religious festivity along with its police counterparts.
Col. Edgard Arevalo, AFP public affairs office chief, however, declined to give the exact composition of the military contingent securing the "Traslacion" but said it will be under Joint Task Force-National Capital Region presently commanded by Col. Victor Tomas.
"There will be sufficient number of troops from the Army, Navy and Air Force but we can't give their exact composition due to security and operational reasons," he said in Filipino.
Adequate land, air and sea assets will be on hand for any eventualities, Arevalo added.
The AFP public affairs office chief also said they are still to receive any reports indicating of any threat to the religious festivities but advised procession goers to be vigilant and report immediately to authorities presence of suspicious looking individuals and objects in the vicinity of the "Translacion".
