From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 20): Palace on PNP officers' hefty bonuses: 'It is not forthcoming'
Malacanang on Tuesday said the key Philippine National Police (PNP) officers will not be getting the promised hefty bonuses.
Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella said PNP Chief Director General Ronald ‘Bato’ Dela Rosa clarified to him that the bonuses “may not be” released to the high-ranking PNP officials.
"Regarding the bonuses being given for the PNP, according to General Bato, it is not forthcoming," Abella said.
Last Monday, Dela Rosa announced key police officials will be receiving from PHP50,000 to PHP400,000 Christmas gifts from the President.
This prompted Abella to call Dela Rosa to ask the source of the bonuses to the ranking police officials.
"The only thing I did was to clarify as per the question whether what sources it was gonna from. However, what he said was that nothing was received and it seemed apparently that nothing is forthcoming. That is according to his statement to me," Abella explained.
Abella said the PNP chief also told him that the police officials have not yet received the bonuses.
"Based on the last statement I received from PNP chief, it was that they did not receive anything and that it seems that nothing is forthcoming," he said.
In his previous statement, President Rodrigo Duterte repeatedly commended the PNP for their efforts to combat illegal drug menace that contaminated over 3 million Filipinos based on the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) data.
From the PNP reports, more than 2,000 drug pushers and users have been killed in legitimate police operations while over 900,000 have surrendered and almost 40,000 have been arrested under Oplan Tokhang.
President Duterte promised to continue his strong war against illegal drugs until the last drug apparatus is broken and the last addict is out of the streets.
