Twenty-five Muslim Civil Society Organizations from Southern Mindanao (SouthMin) urged the leaders of the two Moro Fronts, Kadatuan, Ulama (Muslim scholars), including Moro Non-Government Organizations, women and youth to be united towards achieving the common goal of the Bangsamoro for self-determination.

The participants underscored the importance of convincing the leaders of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and Moro National Liberation Front, the Muslim religious leaders and Moro traditional leaders and other stakeholders to be united and work for the realization of the Bangsamoro aspiration for self-governance during the “Dealing with the Past” capacity building seminar-workshop held at Sarangani Higlands Resort in General Santos City on August 19-21, 2016.

“No matter what we do, if we are not united for a common cause, it will be hard for us to reach our goal,” said Aida Seddic, President of Muslim Women Organization of General Santos City.

Seddic noted that many Moro people have become complacent in helping to help in the Bangsamoro struggle against injustice, “but if the Moro people will understand what we are fighting for, we will be able to persuade them to rally behind us,” she said.

The delegates coming from the provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and Cities of General Santos and Koronadal learned from the activity the TJRC report in four key themes: Legitimate Grievances, Human Rights Violations, Marginalization through Land Dispossession and Historical Injustice.

They were tapped to help disseminate the TJRC report to the Bangsamoro communities.

“This process entails training you and others on the “dealing with the past” framework for transitional justice, especially in ensuring that violence and human rights violations, historical injustice, marginalization through land dispossession, will no longer recur in the future,” Professor Rufa Cagoco-Guiam, the lead facilitator of the activity told the participants.
