Air Force Weightlifter NABS Silver In Rio 2016, First Pinay Olympic Medalist In 20 Years

AW2C Hidilyn F Diaz PAF makes history for the Philippines as she bagged the silver medal in the women’s 53-kg division of the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 7, 2016.

A native of Zamboanga City, AW2C Diaz is the country’s first female athlete to win an Olympic medal for the Philippines. The last time the Philippines won a medal in the Olympics was in 1996 when Mansueto “Onyok” Velasco competed in the light-flyweight category in boxing in the Atlanta Olympic Games.

In the snatch event, the PAF athlete only tallied 88 kg but recovered in the clean and jerk lift, successfully lifting a 112 kg lift in her second attempt, for a total of 200 kg, against Hsu Shu-Ching’s 212 kg.

The 25-year old silver medalist is assigned at Philippine Air Force Personnel Management Center and on detached service with the Philippine Sports Commission. Prior to her road to the 2016 RIO Olympics, she has already won bronze in the 2015 World Weightlifting Championships and a gold medal in Asia.

The presence of strongly founded PAF core values and the excellence in INSTEP serve as contributing factors to the development of PAF athletes.

With this, the PAF lauds AW2C Diaz for bringing honor and pride to the country.
Mabuhay ka AW2C Hidilyn F Diaz PAF!

THE PHILIPPINE AIR FORCE AND THE WHOLE ARMED FORCES OF THE PHILIPPINES IS VERY PROUD OF YOUR ACHIEVEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!
