From the Philippine News Agency (Jul 2): 2 rebels killed in Cotabato clash

Two New People's Army (NPA) rebels were killed during a series of encounters in Magpet town, Cotabato Friday morning.

Capt. Rhyan Batchar, 10th Infantry Division spokeserson, said the first clash took place 4:40 a.m. at Sitio So Boay-boay, Barangay Basak and the second at 7:00 a.m. at Sitio Lucuakon, Barangay Balite.

He added that troops from the 39th Infantry Battalion were responding to rebel extortion activity reports in the above-mentioned areas when the clash took place.

In the ensuing firefight, two NPA members were killed with no losses to the government side.

Also recovered were one high-powered firearm, 19 improvised explosive devices, documents with high intelligence value, backpacks, personal belongings and the slain rebels.
