From the Mindanao Examiner (Jun 24): Bandit leader slain in Zambo clash with cops

Police forces killed a bandit leader and captured 2 others following a firefight that also left injured a policeman on Friday in Zamboanga del Norte’s Sibuco town in southern Philippines, officials said.

Officials said Jamaruddin Alih alias Boy Takas was shot dead in the village of Lakiki where the fighting erupted. Alih’s son Nurjin and Danny Kairal were both wounded in the clash and eventually captured.

Policeman Samman Iyoh was rushed to hospital after being hit by shrapnel from a grenade fired by Alih.  The gang, police said, was involved in extortion and behind numerous murders in the town.
