From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 15): Army, partners initiate livelihood training in Northern Samar

CATUBIG, Northern Samar -- A community-based skills training program initiated by the Philippine Army’s 20th Infantry Battalion, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and local government unit of Las Navas, in this province is now benefitting 128 residents.

Various livelihood activities were launched following the training culmination last January 29 at the Las Navas Agro-Industrial School in Las Navas town.

These include livestock and poultry production, swine raising, vegetable planting, sewing, bread and pastry making, and motorcycle engine repair

Some 128 local beneficiaries from the towns of Catubig and Las Navas, Northern Samar successfully completed the training requirements for National Certification Level II.

The beneficiaries received “Pangkabuhayan Starter Tool Kits” during their graduation as a jump-start to uplift their livelihood and economic condition.

They extended appreciation for the soldier’s best initiatives on poverty alleviation.

“We cannot always wait for what the government can provide us, rather, we can better help others by teaching them how to fish. In this way, the attainment of success and resolution of social issues will be resolved,” said 20th IB commander Lt. Col. Hilarion Palma.

The military has vowed to get closer to the hearts of people in Northern Samar as the bring all the government programs, which is “anchored on a people-centered, comprehensive and sustainable approach toward the attainment of their core purpose in serving the people and securing the land.”
