16th IB deployed to Surigao Del Sur

From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 21): 16th IB deployed to Surigao Del Sur

The 16th Infantry Battalion, a field unit of the Tanay-based 2nd Infantry Division, was formally deployed to Surigao Del Sur on Tuesday.

It will now be under the operational control of the Cagayan De Oro-based 4th Infantry Division.

In a statement Thursday, 2nd Infantry Division spokesperson 1st Lt. Xy-Zon Meneses said send-off ceremonies took place at Villamor Air Base, Pasay City.

It will augment the 4th Infantry Division's anti-insurgency patrols and operations.

In attendance were 2nd Infantry Division commander Major Gen. Romeo G. Gan and other ranking officials of the unit.

The 16th Infantry Battalion had just finished its disaster and risk reduction operation mission in Mindoro prior to its deployment to Surigao Del Sur. The former is commanded by Lt. Col. Andres C. Ferrer.
