From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 1): SOLCOM head visits Bicol troop for early Christmas visit

With the Yuletide Season fast approaching, Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) head Lt. Gen. Ricardo Visaya paid an early Christmas visit to Army units last Nov. 25 to 27.

He also told officers and enlisted personnel to "be safe so that our Christmas will be happy.”

Visaya first visited 9th Infantry Division headquarters in Pili, Camarines Sur on Nov. 25; 903rd Infantry Brigade in Castilla, Sorsogon and 901st Brigade in Daraga, Albay on Nov. 26; and the 902nd Infantry Brigade in Labo, Camarines Norte on Nov. 27.

Visaya also thanked the soldiers for their contribution in Internal Peace Security Plan (IPSP) “Bayanihan” in the Southern Luzon, more so, in Bicol Region.

He reminded the soldiers to be extra careful and vigilant in their day to day activities may it be operational, administrative or personal.

“It’s better to be patrolling in the mountains during the Yuletide Season than laying down on a coffin,” Visaya added.

He also stressed that SOLCOM being on the right track in its campaign.

Visaya said that in the last year of implementation of IPSP “Bayanihan”, SOLCOM will give its best effort in making the NPAs insignificant by yearend 2016.

“Our successful combat operations result to the continuous weakening of NPA forces in the region,” the SOLCOM chief added.

“Our commitment in better serving the people is making Bicol Region a safer and more progressive place for the Bicolano and the Filipino in general,” he pointed out.

Visaya decided to make an early Christmas visit in order to deliver his message, check on the current status of the campaign and focus on addressing enemy threats considering the upcoming Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)'s 47th Anniversary on Dec. 26.

Traditionally, the NPAs conduct tactical offensives, targeting government forces/ installations to celebrate the CPP anniversary.
