A New People's Army (NPA) bandit was killed and a
high-powered firearm seized during an encounter with 3rd Infantry Division
units at Sitio Cabanbanan, Barangay Camalandaan, Cauyan town, Negros Occidental
Wednesday morning.
3rd Infantry Division spokesperson Major Ray Tiongson said
the firefight took place at 6:10a.m. after four NPA fighters fired on troops of
the 79th Infantry Battalion who were then conducting security patrols in the
area.
Fighting lasted for 10 minutes and resulted in the death of
one rebel and recovery of an M-14 automatic rifle.
No one was reported hurt among the government troops.
