The Sun Daily (Nov 30): Police seek Jailani’s extradition
Police will make an official request with their Philippines counterparts to extradite two notorious militants it detained last week for the Sandakan kidnapping and murder of Bernard Then.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the request will be made soon to have Abu Sayyaf militant group members, Saddam Jailani and Kadaffy Kamsa, who were detained in two separate raids in the Port of Jolo investigated and face charges for the alleged crimes in Malaysia.
"We are making a request to bring them here to face court charges. Discussions with our Philippine counterparts are ongoing to realise this extradition," Khalid told reporters in a press conference today after officiating a senior officers event at Bukit Aman.
According to a Philippines news portal on Friday, Saddam Jailani was allegedly the mastermind behind the kidnapping and killing of Bernard Then and was detained by a joint police-army team in Jolo on Friday.
However, another Philippine-based news agency reported that Kadaffy was arrested next day while he was receiving treatment in a hospital after a vehicular accident.
On other matters, Khalid said Bukit Aman has received permission from the Thai authorities to record a statement from former PetroSaudi employee Xavier Andre Justo who is behind the leak of classified documents pertaining to the Malaysian strategic investment arm company, 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
"We expect to send our officers to Thailand by the end of this week," Khalid said.
Justo, who is serving jail time in Thailand for blackmailing his former employer, was sought by the Malaysian police to facilitate investigations into the alleged misappropriation of 1MDB funds.
Meanwhile, Khalid said police have also summoned lawyer Americk Sidhu to shed light on claims made by Charles Suresh Morais in a Statutory Declaration last week.
