From the Philippine News Agency/Kyodo (Nov 4): Japan, China defense chiefs hold 1st talks in over 4 yrs

Japan and China held defense ministers' talks on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday for the first time since June 2011.

Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani and Chinese Defense Minister Gen. Chang Wanquan met on the fringes of a meeting of 18 defense ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and their regional partners.

Nakatani is aiming to confirm that the two countries will make efforts for the launch of a communication mechanism between their defense authorities to prevent accidental clashes in the East China Sea.
