From ABS-CBN (Nov 24): AFP gives P22.5-M to informants
The Philippine military handed over P22.5 million in reward money to nine agents who provided information that led to the neutralization of wanted communists and terrorists.
The informants were instrumental in the neutralization of two communist leaders, three Abu Sayyaf Group leaders, and four others.
AFP vice chief of staff Maj. Gen. Romeo Tanalgo led the distribution of the reward money, which ranged from P350,000 to P5.8 million.
Among those neutralized because of the information from a tipster was Eduardo Esteban, alias Esteban Manuel, a ranking leader of the New People's Army (NPA) wanted for murder in Abra.
Esteban, who had a P5.8 million bounty on his head, was captured in Iloilo City by combined military and police elements on August 5, 2014.
Another NPA leader, Domiciano Muya, was arrested through the help of a military informant on October 16, 2014 in Tagum City.
Muya, who had a P4.8 million bounty on his head, is facing multiple murder, double homicide and frustrated murder charges for the killing of five militiamen and two policemen in Malaybalay City.
Among the neutralized Abu Sayyaf personalities were Khair Mundos, an alleged finance officer of the ASG. Mundos had a P5.3 million bounty on his head.
Also neutralized through the help of an informant was ASG sub-leader Long Malat Sulayman, who had a P3.3 million bounty on his head.
Mundos was captured by joint military and police operatives on June 11, 2014 in ParaƱaque City while Sulayman was killed after resisting arrest in Basilan on April 1, 2012.
Sulayman was wanted for nine counts of murder and four counts of frustrated murder before a Basilan court.
He was tagged in the 2007 killing of 14 Marines, some of whom were mutilated, and the 2011 killing of 19 Special Forces operatives - both in Al-Barka, Basilan.
