From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 7): Police identify captured NPA rebel

Police investigators have identified the captured suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebel who was wounded in an encounter with the police Public Safety Company of Surigao del Norte, on Tuesday morning during a combat operation of the government troopers at Purok 5, Barangay Ombong, Alegria town in Agusan del Norte.

Surigao del Norte police reports reaching the regional police headquarters on Wednesday, identified the wounded NPA rebel, who accordingly was left behind by his withdrawing comrades as Jupiter Pigaro Pacquiao, 34, of Don Julio Quano of the said town. Pacquiao sustained a gunshot wound on his stomach.

Confiscated by the police operatives from his possession were: a Squires Bingham Caliber .22 improvised rifle without serial number with five live ammunition and a black pack containing a hand grenade, three P20.00 bills, six P1.00 coins, a box of match, two packs of cigarettes, 11 pieces cookies, a pair of black rain boots, a jacket printed with MVB ISSI.

It should be recalled that the operating troops of the Public Safety Company had conducted a combat operation Tuesday morning, when they encountered about 15 heavily armed group members believed to be NPAs belonging to the Guerilla Front 16, under a certain Rolando Leyson, Jr. also known as “Edroy” at Purok 5, Brgy. Ombong, Alegria town in Surigao del Norte. A five-minute firefight ensued, which resulted in the wounding of the victim.

The suspected NPA is now confined at a hospital here in Butuan City and was closely observed by the doctors after his operation.

A case of illegal possession of firearm, explosive and ammunition is now prepared for filing in court against him.
