Mindoro Oriental has joined the list of provinces declared
as "Conflict Manageable and Ready for Further Development."
This was disclosed by Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM)
spokesperson Major Angelo Guzman Friday.
Signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) declaring
Mindoro Oriental as such took place Thursday at Tamaraw Hall of the Mindoro
Oriental Provincial Capitol, he added.
Participating in this event were representatives from the
Mindoro Oriental Province Government, SOLCOM, 2nd Infantry Division, and the
Philippine National Police.
"The level of insurgency has dwindled in the past years
and could not be considered as a major threat to the peace and order security
of the the province," 203rd Infantry Brigade commander Col. Gevin Edjawan
said.
He added that the Communists Party of the Philippines-New
People's Army has a weak and unstable organization due to the decreased
strength and capability to conduct tactical operation and violent atrocities.
Oriental Mindoro was once an NPA hotbed with around 45
rebels in 2011.
Now only 36 NPAs are running the vast area from the
continuous military operations of the AFP and law enforcement operations of the
PNP.
In 2014, there were four recorded NPA violent activity while
only one recorded this year.
"There will be no pulling out of forces in Oriental
Mindoro, in fact, SOLCOM will augment additional forces in the island of
Mindoro," SOLCOM head Lt.Gen. Ricardo R. Visaya said.
He added that the addition of of forces is intended to
totally crash the remaining 36 NPAs in Oriental Mindoro.
