From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 9): 67 families of soldiers killed in action to get new homes

Sixty seven families of Army personnel who were killed in action are now in the process of availing housing units from the President's housing project for the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Under the House and Lot Remuneration program, a housing assistance given to families or beneficiaries of military personnel and CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA) who were killed in action during military operations, the AFP general headquarters submitted 81 applications to the National Housing Authority.

Out of the 81 applications, 67 belong to the families of Army personnel while 14 belong to the Philippine Navy and Marine Corps.

Under the program, 649 families of soldiers killed in action were already awarded with housing units.

Now named President Benigno S. Aquino III (PBSA III) Housing Project, this is a project of the President for the AFP, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Bureau of Fire, and Bureau of Corrections.

This program intends to provide permanent housing facilities soldiers and low income uniformed personnel.

Phase 1 of the project covers areas in Luzon, with housing sites in Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal.

A total of 4,657 units were awarded to Army personnel since 2012.

For Phase 2, the President initiated the expansion of the AFP/PNP Housing Program in the urban centers of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

This will provide at least one housing site in every region with a maximum of 1,500 units per location.

At present, there are 1,506 being processed to avail slots from the PBSA III Housing Project Phase 2.
