The National Prosecution Service-National Bureau of
Investigation (NPS-NBI) special investigation team of the Department of Justice
(DOJ) will determine who are the people behind the paramilitary group allegedly
responsible in the killing of three members of the Lumad tribe in Lianga,
Surigao del Sur last Sept. 1.
According to DOJ Secretary Leila M. De Lima, based on their
initial information, the "Mahagat/Bagani Force" was behind the
killing of Lumads.
De Lima said that included in the investigation to be conducted
by the DOJ special investigation team was to identify who were funding and
giving arms to the said group.
She added that it was important to determine what was the
"contributory factor" on the part of all those who were involved in
the issue which worsened the situation of the Lumads.
The DOJ Chief expressed the belief that the issue of the
Lumads is not only an internal matter of the Philippines because this issue is
also being looked into by the United Nations (UN).
Hence, De Lima said, it was necessary to conduct an in-depth
investigation of the matter.
