From Ang Malaya (Aug 27): Navy’s newly acquired vessels prove capabilities in first response mission

Newly acquired Landing Craft Heavy (LCH) from Australia, BRP Ivatan (AT 298) and BRP Batak (AT 299) of the Philippine Navy were tested in a humanitarian assistance and disaster response mission to Northern Luzon. The mission was in response to Typhoon Ineng. The LCHs arrived in Poro Port, San Fernando City, La Union August 26.

“BRP Ivatan (AT 298) and BRP Batak (AT 299) the two newly acquired Landing Craft Heavy (LCH) arrived in San Fernando City Pier carrying 13,602 family food packs from DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) intended for delivery to Ilocos Region and Abra,” Naval Task Force 11 said.

“This is in line with the commitment of the Philippine Navy in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response Operations in Northern Luzon under the Operational Control of Naval Task Force 11,” it added in a statement.

The two LCHs were donated by the Australian government and were turned over to the Navy last July 23.
