Rebels torch truck

From the Philippine Star (Jul 7): Rebels torch truck

A band of suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas burned a truck owned by a businessman in Columbio, Sultan Kudarat Sunday night.

The truck had just delivered goods in Barangay Maligaya and was returning to the town proper when a group of armed men pulled it over in Barangay Sinapulan at past 6 p.m., according to Senior Inspector Bernard Francia, town police chief.

The truck was owned by businessman Willie Estabillo.

Francia said the armed men introduced themselves as NPA rebels and ordered the driver and his helper at gunpoint to get off the truck.

The rebels poured gasoline on the engine and set it on fire before fleeing.

Francia said the rebels belong to a group led by a certain “Kumander Warren” operating in Sultan Kudarat and Davao del Sur.
