EMC disarms 56 IEDs in first six months of 2015

From the Philippine News Agency (Ju1 1): EMC disarms 56 IEDs in first six months of 2015

As a result of its intensified mine-clearing activities, the Davao City-based Eastern Mindanao Command has recovered and disarmed 56 New People's Army (NPA) improvised explosive devices (IEDs) for the first six months of 2015.

This was disclosed by EMC public affairs office Capt. Alberto Caber in a message to the PNA.

He added that most of these IEDs were recovered by government troopers along major road networks and population centers in their area-of-operations.

It can be recalled that on April 1, a civilian was killed while seven others were injured in an IED explosion along the road in Brgy. Mahayag, San Miguel, Surigao Del Sur.

Moreover, on April 20, two innocent civilians were wounded as a result of an IED explosion that was perpetrated by NPA bandits along the national highway in Sitio Bagong Silang, Brgy San Vicente, Makilala, North Cotabato.

Caber said the continuous manufacture and use of these IEDs are gross violations of the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law.
