From the Philippine News Agency (Jun 14): Update: 3 rebels killed, M-14 automatic rifle, two IEDs seized in Davao City clash

Three New People's Army (NPA) bandits were killed during an encounter with troopers from the 69th Infantry Battalion at Purok 7, Barangay Paradise Embac, Paquibato District, Davao City early Sunday morning.

Eastern Mindanao Command public affairs office chief Capt. Alberto Caber said the clash took place at 12:05 a.m. which also resulted in the recovery of an M-14 automatic rifle, two unexploded improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and several backpacks.

No losses were reported among government troops.

Caber said pursuit operations are still ongoing as of this posting.

Lt. Col. Rodney Intal, 69th Infantry Battalion commander, said the clash with the rebel force stemmed from the extortion and harassment complaints of the local residents.

He added that three rebels were immediately killed in the firefight.

Local residents identified two of the fatalities as Randy Cornasa and Ruben Inlog, both residents of the same barangay. The third fatality remained unidentified as of this time.

As of June 14, there were 38 NPA bandits killed and 72 high-powered firearms captured in the Eastern Mindanao area since Jan. 1 of this year.
