Army repels rebel band in Cagayan clash

From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 11): Army repels rebel band in Cagayan clash

Troopers from the 52nd Division Reconnaissance Company, a field unit of the Isabela-based 5th Infantry Division, have successfully repelled a New People's Army (NPA) force during an encounter at Barangay Masi, Rizal town, Cagayan Friday afternoon.

The clash took place at 5: 10 p.m., 5th Infantry Division public affairs office chief Capt. Randy Sta. Maria said in a message to the PNA.

He said that troopers were heading to the area when they spotted an undetermined number of rebels.

This triggered a 15-minute firefight which caused the NPAs an undetermined number of casualties.

After this, the NPAs quickly fled leaving behind a homemade shotgun, a backpack with subversive documents, a roll of detonating cord and two kilos of ammonium sulfate.

Sta. Maria said that no one among the government troopers were hurt nor killed in the encounter.

"It is our plea that the NPA leaders will show pity to their wounded comrades by not hiding them and letting their own die but instead hand them over for proper treatment to the nearest hospitals. Let’s not add more death but save lives for peace and development," he said.
